
Gord Peters (cont.) Gord has held a volunteer role with Ottawa Salus Corporation as a Board member and Treasurer from 2003 to present. On the Canada Games Council Gord has held the volunteer role of financial adviser to the CEO, specializing in inter-governmental agreements as well as being a member of the Finance and Audit Committee. Gord also Chairs the Board of Trustees for the MacKay United Church. In his spare time Gord enjoys golf, tennis, skiing, hockey, bridge and travelling.
John Pickett A principal of JP International; a sport marketing and event management firm, John manages significant national and international properties for major corporations and sport organizations. Formerly the Consulting Director for Nike Inc. Global Sports Marketing he was responsible for the business management of the Nike Hockey Sponsorship Programs with the IIHF and the Member Federations. Prior to joining Nike, John was with Labatt Breweries of Canada where he developed the Sport Labatt National Promotions Sponsorship Program for twenty-two National Sport Organizations including major Games for the Canadian Olympic Association and the Commonwealth Games Association of Canada. Special projects undertaken have included the strategic planning and program execution of the 1988 Labatt Olympic Parent’s Programs, the 1991 Canada Cup, the 1993 IAAF World Indoor Championships in Athletics, and Hockey Canada’s Olympic Program for Albertville ‘92 and Lillehammer ‘94. John provided marketing support to the 1994 Victoria Commonwealth Games, Hockey Canada, and the Nike Olympic Winter Games operations in Nagano 1998 and Salt Lake City 2002 as well as for the 2001, 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2009 Canada Games. Recipient of the 2010 Canadian Sport Leadership Award, John is a graduate from the University of Western Ontario in the Recreation Diploma Course in Sport Management and certified Director of Municipal Recreation, John is a father of two children, Scott and Jody, and currently resides in the City of Kawartha Lakes, Ontario.
Joseph Spriet Joseph was born in West Flanders Belgium on October 19th, 1938. After WW II he immigrated to Canada in 1949; landing at Pier 19 in Halifax and making his way to Simcoe, Ontario. He graduated from the Dale Carnegie training in Human Relations and Executive Management in 1973 and 1991 respectively. Joseph was involved with community groups in executive positions for sports, church, social, and business groups during all of the 70’s and 80’s. Joseph grew tobacco on the family farm with his family from 1949 until 1960 and then grew tobacco in his own right in various locations in Canada until 1986. He then starting Choice Tobacco Inc. a micro manufacturer of tobacco products to manufacture and supply the Canadian and USA markets with RYO (roll your own) tobacco products direct to wholesales retail and consumers. Irene and Joseph have 4 children, 9 grand-children and now 1 great-grandchild. In 2004 Joseph accepted the appointment by the Premier of the province to Chair the 2009 Canada Games Bid Committee and subsequently became President of the 2009 Host society charged with organizing the multisport event. Since 2005 Joseph has been semi-retired, working as a consultant for Business Entrepreneurs and living in Valleyfield East a community adjacent to Montague, PEI.
